Specialized Textile Solutions for Medical Applications

Apex Mills produces a range of textile solutions for the medical industry, where high-quality fabrics are essential to accomplish critical daily tasks.

Antimicrobial Fabrics

Clothing, linens and other porous materials are breeding grounds for dangerous pathogens. Antimicrobial fabrics offer protection against microorganisms like bacteria, mold and mildew — they function similarly to soaps and sanitizers by attacking microorganisms on a cellular level to prevent transmission. Textiles are treated to achieve antimicrobial characteristics while adhering to FDA requirements to be nontoxic and safe for use.

These specially treated textiles are widely used throughout medical settings to create a more sanitary and protected environment. You’ll often see these fabrics used as mattress covers, wound dressings, clothes and hospital curtains to decrease the risk of disease transmission.

Apex Mills is an experienced manufacturer of antimicrobial mesh, tricot, 3D spacer, and elastic fabrics designed with high-quality finishes to reduce odors and bacteria growth. We’ll work closely with your team to understand your fabric-related needs and design a solution that supports your objectives while aligning with FDA, EPA and other guidelines.

Compression and Elastic Fabrics

Elastic and compression fabrics are similar, allowing products to easily stretch and return to their original shape without deformation. These fabrics contain elastomeric materials with highly flexible properties for applications requiring comfortability, form and pliability. They undergo complex production procedures where fibers are rolled in yarn before knitting. They are then refined through dyeing and finishing to obtain a desired appearance and gain additional properties, like anti-abrasion. These textiles are often created from elastomers including spandex, neoprene and silicone.

Compression fabrics are often used as post-surgical garments, commonly worn on patients’ arms and legs. These products provide substantial pressure on the body part to achieve specific goals, such as swelling reduction.

Other goods constructed with elastomers include:

  • Surgical tubing
  • Adhesives
  • Bandages
  • Prostheses
  • Bindings
  • Braces
