Welcoming 2016 in the Textile Industry

January is the time to reflect on the past 12 months and look towards the new year. In 2015, Apex Mills addressed the many ways that industries use textiles in their products and showcased the importance and relevance they have in day-to-day life.

Learn More About Our Textiles

Our case studies demonstrate how fabric with precise engineered construction help solve problems faced by the aerospace & defense industry, as well as commercial and consumer industries including apparel & footwear, environmental, filters & screens, government, medical & orthopedic, safety, and more. Recently, a high-end consumer products company tapped into our textile expertise and creativity seeking an alternative to woven goods. The Apex Mills team designed a unique fabric that retained the look of a weave, while eliminating the fraying and fabric loosening characteristic of woven goods. Our engineers modified the knitting machines to accommodate a heavier, less pliable vinyl yarn –reinforcing our client’s strong reputation for their use of unique fabric properties.

In 2015, our blogs addressed textiles in the workplace – office furniture, various applications in the automotive and construction industries, and took a look at laundry carts and bags in correctional facilities through a fun write on the Netflix series “Orange is the New Black.” This year, we will share new case studies and explore advanced applications in which fabric has become even more of a core component – think smart textiles and wearable technology, as well as innovative medical applications and surgical supplies.

People rarely realize what goes into the fabric and technology involved in designing, engineering, and manufacturing the different components of an end product. The topics we touched upon this past year are only a sampling of the many textile cases we deal with on a regular basis. So, when you’re eating your vegetables at dinner, consider that a specially treated fabric was used during growing to keep away insects and the potential diseases they carry. Or, when you shower and lather your buff puff, maybe one of our textile specialists made sure the mesh had the right properties to scrub and not scratch. And, when you’re driving in your car, singing out loud, rest assured that some of the new fabrics being used in automobiles have sound reduction qualities. So, even if you’re not a contestant on “The Voice,” you can belt it out without worry.
